Deming Public Schools is excited to welcome our newest addition, Ms. Daena Davis as the Principal of Bataan Elementary.

Ms. Davis is highly qualified with 25 years in education, a degree from Western New Mexico University in Elementary Education K-8, Leadership Administration License, and endorsements in Bilingual and TESOL. Ms. Davis started her career at Deming Public Schools as a 5th grade Bilingual Teacher at Smith Elementary. “Deming Public Schools was the best place to start my career, I love that Deming had so many different supports for new teachers. Administration really took the time to help and guide new teachers, I really appreciated it.” said Ms. Davis.

After teaching in Deming, Ms. Davis spent time as a middle school teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada for a couple of years until her family decided to come back to small town life in New Mexico. During the 18-year tenure with Cobre Consolidated Schools, Ms. Davis held many positions from teaching to administration. Then turning full circle back to Deming Public Schools, Ms. Davis came to us last year as our English Learners Content Specialist.

“Being back in the classroom, brought back to light my passion for helping kids excel in learning. If I make a difference with one student, then I’ve done my job.” expressed Ms. Davis “The most rewarding experience as an educator is the unexpected thanks you receive from students. I will always remember the letter I received from a former student after their graduation, expressing if it wasn’t for the encouragement I gave them while I taught them in the 5th grade, they would have never had the drive and determination to graduate.”

Principal Davis is excited to be leading the amazing teachers and staff at Bataan Elementary and looks forward to meeting with parents, community, and the schools Advisory Council.

“My goals for Bataan Elementary include making this school a welcoming place where students want to learn and attend school. The Ron Clark Academy is great for encouraging and engaging students while working on achievement gaps.” said Principal Davis “I also want to keep communication open with teachers and parents and encourage parent and student participation with monthly calendars with school events.”
