Deming Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Melanie Rinehart as the district's new Chief Academic Officer.
Mrs. Rinehart brings nearly 30 years of educational experience to the position, having served Deming Public Schools as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, principal, and most recently as Executive Director of Learning Services. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving student achievement through strategic leadership, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative systems that support educators and students alike.
As principal of Bell Elementary, Mrs. Rinehart led one of the district's most significant school improvement efforts. Under her leadership, Bell Elementary transitioned from a Priority School designation to becoming a New Mexico Public Education Department Spotlight School, earning Designations of Excellence in both reading and mathematics growth while also being recognized as a Model School for Structured Literacy.
Superintendent Nicholas Wohlgemuth expressed his confidence in Mrs. Rinehart's leadership. "Melanie has consistently demonstrated exceptional instructional leadership and an unwavering commitment to student success throughout her career with Deming Public Schools. Her ability to develop systems that improve teaching and learning while building strong relationships with school leaders, staff, and families makes her the ideal person to lead our district's academic vision. We are excited to have her serve as our Chief Academic Officer and know she will continue to make a lasting impact on the success of our students."
Mrs. Rinehart credits her passion for education to an inspiring fifth-grade teacher. "My fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Savage, inspired me to become a teacher," she said.
Reflecting on her career, Mrs. Rinehart says she is most proud of the opportunity to serve students and educators in a variety of leadership roles. "I love the fact that I have worked in many capacities in education, including as a teacher, an instructional coach, a principal, and now at the district level."
As Chief Academic Officer, Mrs. Rinehart's top priority is strengthening instructional leadership across every campus. "My priority is collaborating with school site leaders to develop and implement systems that support a culture of student learning."
Supporting principals and teachers will remain a central focus of her leadership. She plans to use a collaborative, data-driven approach that emphasizes continuous improvement, intentional instructional planning, and reflective feedback cycles. By working alongside school leaders to analyze student performance, identify areas for growth, and refine instructional practices, Mrs. Rinehart aims to build sustainable systems where data informs decisions and continuous learning becomes part of every school's culture.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Rinehart is excited about the direction of Deming Public Schools. "What excites me most about the future of education in Deming Public Schools is our commitment to placing students at the center of everything we do. By developing strong alignment across all our schools and focusing intentionally on culture, student outcomes, and fostering positive relationships, we create a place where every student feels valued and supported. Whether a student is in elementary, middle, or high school, they will experience consistent expectations, shared values, and meaningful connections that empower them to succeed. When schools work together with students as the priority, we don't just improve test scores—we build a thriving community where young people feel they belong, are challenged to grow, and are prepared for meaningful futures."
