Deming Public Schools Names Veronica Lozano My Little School PreK Principal and PreK Program Coordinator
Deming Public Schools is pleased to announce Veronica Lozano as the new My Little School PreK Principal and PreK Program Coordinator. Ms. Lozano brings 22 years of experience in education, including extensive work in early childhood instruction, teacher development, program leadership and PreK compliance.
“I’m super excited for the future of Deming’s PreK program and My Little School with Ms. Veronica Lozano stepping into her new role as the PreK principal,” expressed Amber Swinney, retiring My Little School Principal and PreK Program Coordinator. “She comes with a wealth of experience in early childhood and a solid knowledge of PreK learning expectations. She is highly organized and works diligently to build relationships with students, staff and parents while ensuring all PreK programs remain compliant.”
Ms. Lozano began her career with Deming Public Schools at Bell Elementary School and later served at Memorial Elementary School, teaching kindergarten and first grade. Since 2023, she has served as a Teacher on Special Assignment for My Little School, New Mexico PreK, and Early New Mexico PreK. In that role, she has assisted with administrative duties, supported teachers and educational assistants, planned professional development, and observed and evaluated district PreK staff.
A graduate of Deming High School, Ms. Lozano said an education course she took in high school gave her the opportunity to work in elementary classrooms and inspired her to pursue early childhood education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from New Mexico State University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in reading instruction from the University of Phoenix, and an administrative certificate from Western New Mexico University.
“My vision is to ensure every child is socially, emotionally and academically prepared for a successful transition to kindergarten,” said Ms. Lozano. “I believe every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they feel valued, encouraged and excited to learn.”
Ms. Lozano said the program will continue to use purposeful, play-based experiences, language-rich instruction and meaningful relationships to foster curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, communication and a lifelong love of learning. She also emphasized the importance of being present for teachers and educational assistants, listening to their needs, and providing the resources, encouragement and feedback they need to succeed.
To families sending a child to preschool for the first time, Ms. Lozano offered reassurance: “We understand this is a special milestone. It is natural to be both excited and nervous, but please know your child will be welcomed into a caring environment where they are safe, supported and encouraged to grow every day.” She added that strong partnerships between families and schools help children enter kindergarten confident, curious and ready to succeed.
Ms. Lozano succeeds retiring My Little School Principal and PreK Program Coordinator Amber Swinney, who is retiring from Deming Public Schools at the end of August after 25 years of service. The district thanks Ms. Swinney for her longstanding dedication to Deming’s youngest learners, their families and district staff. In retirement, Swinney plans to travel and begin a new career with Deming Coca-Cola.
