Bus Passes for 2022-23 School Year

  • The 22-23 SY Bus Passes and Parent/Student Roles & Responsibilities Forms will be available i the Infinite Campus Portal. You will be able to see your students' bus assignment and times for pick up and drop off. (To check or change mailing address listed on Infinite Campus, please contact your student’s school to change it on the Infinite Campus – Parent Portal) it does take 24-48 hours for our department to see the and and we can then assign a bus to your student.
  • If your child does not have a bus pass on the portal, please call the DPS Transportation Office to check their eligibility at 575-546-8841 Ext 1009.
  • All parent and student roles & responsibilities forms must be signed the first week of school on the parent portal. Make sure to go over the student responsibilities with your student.
  • Parents need to verify all information on the portal is correct on bus pass prior to their child boarding the bus.
  • Student’s must be at the bus stop ready to load 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled stop time listed on the bus pass.****

Message from the Director

Dear Parents and Students, Welcome to the 22-23 school year! The transportation department is prepared to transport students to and from school and to extracurricular activities when schools go into session on July 18. Bus drivers and bus assistants are excited to see students after our break. Bus drivers will continue to give students assigned seating, keep up with cleaning procedures and provide a safe mode of transportation to students. Please work with your students on accessing the prent and student responsibilites on the Infinanate Campus Portal We look forward to seeing students ride the school bus again! Elementary students are eligible for bus service if they reside any distance over one (1) mile from their attendance area school. Parents need to go to the Transportation Office to register their student for bus service. To help insure the safety of all passengers, please review the School Bus Rules listed below. Students with disabilities who have special transportation needs will be accommodated according to their IEP.

Parents/guardians need to inform the Transportation Office and school personnel if their student has medical problems such as asthma or diabetes. Parents must notify the school in writing or by telephone as early in the day as possible if the student will not be riding the bus home or if there is any change in the route. To have an additional student ride the bus, s/he must have a note from his/her parents verified by a school administrator and room is available on the bus. A pass will be issued for an additional student to ride a bus or board a bus different from the assigned one.

SCHOOL BUS RULES

1. Riding the bus is a privilege.

2. Students must obey bus driver directives.

3. Students must remain seated while bus is in motion.

4. Students shall not tamper with any safety and/or equipment on the bus.

5. Students shall exhibit respect, responsible actions, trustworthiness, fairness, and good citizenship while on the school bus.

6. Students are to avoid fighting, pushing, tripping, hitting, kicking, and/or similar activities.

7. Students shall not use obscene or profane language or gestures while on the bus.

8. Students shall not eat any food or drink any beverages while on the bus.

9. Students shall not extend their hands, arms, heads, or any objects through bus windows.

10. Firearms, knives, explosives, breakable glass, matches, and other dangerous objects are not permitted on the bus.

11. Students shall not throw any item into, within, or out of the bus while boarding, riding, or leaving bus.

12. The use or possession of tobacco, drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, or any other illegal items is not permitted on the bus.

13. Students shall not destroy the property of others while on the bus.

14. Destruction of school property is absolutely prohibited. Parents shall be held responsible for malicious destruction to the bus caused by their student(s).

15. Cell phones cannot be turned on while on the school bus and must be stored in a backpack or purse.

16. Failure to follow bus rules may result in your student’s removal from the bus.

STUDENT BUS SAFETY REVIEW

1. Students who are required to walk a distance to meet the bus must walk on the side of the road to their left facing traffic, except on divided or multi-lane roadways.

2. Students must be on time at their assigned bus stop. The bus driver will not wait for students unprepared to immediately load. (90% of all school bus related fatalities occur while loading or unloading.)

7. Los estudiantes no deberán usar lenguaje o ademanes obscenos o profanos mientras estén en el autobús.

8. Los estudiantes no deberán comer ninguna comida o beber ninguna bebida mientras estén en el autobús.

9. Los estudiantes no deberán extender sus manos, brazos, cabezas, o cualquier objeto a través de las ventanas del autobús.

10. Armas de fuego, navajas, explosivos, vidrio quebradizo, cerillos, y objetos peligrosos no se permiten en el autobús.

11. Los estudiantes no deberán tirar ningún artículo en, dentro, o fuera del camión al subir, viajar o al dejar el autobús.

12. El uso o la posesión de tabaco, drogas, alcohol, sustancias controladas, o cualquier artículo ilegal no se permiten en el autobús.

13. Los estudiantes no deberán destruir la propiedad de otros mientras viajen en el autobús.

14. La destrucción de propiedad escolar es totalmente prohibida. Los padres/guardians serán hechos responsables por la destrucción maliciosa causada al autobús.

15. Los teléfonos celulares deben mantenerse apagados cuando se encuentren en la escuela y en el camión y tienen que ser guardados en la mochila o bolsa.

RESUMEN SOBRE LA SEGURIDAD DE LOS ESTUDIANTES EN EL

AUTOBUS

1. Los estudiantes que necesiten caminar una distancia larga para poder subir al camión deberán de

caminar en el carril izquierdo del camino y mantener la cara hacia el tráfico, excepto en carreteras de múltiple carriles o divididas.

2. Los estudiantes deben estar a tiempo en su parada para abordar el camión designado. El chofer no esperara a los estudiantes que no estén listos para subir al camión. (El 90% de las fatalidades relacionadas con el camión ocurren al subir o bajar de los camiones.)

Mission Statement

The Transportation Department’s mission is to provide safe, reliable and efficient student transportation. Ensure that busses are maintained for safe and reliable transportation for all eligible students to and from school as well as extracurricular activity trips.

11. Students shall not throw any item into, within, or out of the bus while boarding, riding, or leaving bus.

12. The use or possession of tobacco, drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, or any other illegal items is not permitted on the bus.

13. Students shall not destroy the property of others while on the bus.

14. Destruction of school property is absolutely prohibited. Parents shall be held responsible for malicious destruction to the bus caused by their student(s).

15. Cell phones cannot be turned on while on the school bus and must be stored in a backpack or purse.

16. Failure to follow bus rules may result in your student’s removal from the bus.

1. Students who are required to walk a distance to meet the bus must walk on the side of the road to their left facing traffic, except on divided or multi-lane roadways.

2. Students must be on time at their assigned bus stop. The bus driver will not wait for students unprepared to immediately load. (90% of all school bus related fatalities occur while loading or unloading.)

3. Students must wait in a safe place, clear of traffic and away from where the bus stops.

4. Students shall wait in an orderly fashion and avoid “horseplay.” When loading, students should clear the traffic area immediately.

7. Los estudiantes no deberán usar lenguaje o ademanes obscenos o profanos mientras estén en el autobús.

8. Los estudiantes no deberán comer ninguna comida o beber ninguna bebida mientras estén en el autobús.

9. Los estudiantes no deberán extender sus manos, brazos, cabezas, o cualquier objeto a

través de las ventanas del autobús.

10. Armas de fuego, navajas, explosivos, vidrio quebradizo, cerillos, y objetos peligrosos no se permiten en el autobús.

11. Los estudiantes no deberán tirar ningún artículo en, dentro, o fuera del camión al subir, viajar o al dejar el autobús.

12. El uso o la posesión de tabaco, drogas, alcohol, sustancias controladas, o cualquier artículo ilegal no se permiten en el autobús.

Secondary SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION

DPS Board Policy 302-2

 

7th through 9th grade students are eligible for bus service if they reside any distance over1.5 miles from their attendance area school. 10th through 12th grade students are eligible for bus service if they reside any distance over 2.0 miles from their attendance area school.  Parents need to go to the Transportation Office to register their student for bus service. To help insure the safety of all passengers, please review the School Bus Rules listed below. Students with disabilities who have special transportation needs will be accommodated according to their IEP.

Parents/guardians need to inform the Transportation Office and school personnel if their student has medical problems such as asthma or diabetes. Parents must notify the school in writing or by telephone as early in the day as possible if the student will not be riding the bus home or if there is any change in the route. To have an additional student ride the bus, s/he must have a note from his/her parents verified by a school administrator and room is available on the bus. A pass will be issued for an additional student to ride a bus or board a bus different from the assigned one.

SCHOOL BUS RULES

1. Riding the bus is a privilege.

2. Students must obey bus driver directives.

3. Students must remain seated while bus is in motion.

4. Students shall not tamper with any safety and/or equipment on the bus.

5. Students shall exhibit respect, responsible actions, trustworthiness, fairness, and good citizenship while on the school bus.

Vehicle Request and Field Trips

DPS Vehicle Request

  • The person that checks out a vehicle must drive the vehicle (Infofinder name entry must match the vehicle request form) Name of the driver must match in Infofinder and the form.
  • All Fleet Vehicle drivers must be cleared to drive a prior to the trip.
  • All drivers must follow speed limit and traffic laws at all times when in a school owned vehicle
  • Only DPS employees can drive a school owned vehicle. 
  • Know the budget code when requesting the vehicle and get approved by your supervisor. 
  • A substitute fleet vehicle driver must have their documentation in file to drive students in case the assigned driver is unable to. 
  • Field Trips: If you put in a request for a vehicle or a field trip that will be paid out of school activity funds, Bilingual funds or SPED funds, your principal and secretary must know that you have approval on bussing or vehicle request. All non NMAA or NFHS trips must be approved by DPS Cabinet before a vehicle or bus is scheduled. 
  • Regular field trips require 10 days prior entry to accommodate an activity driver
  • Out of state field trips require board approval 10 days prior to the trip, except for El Paso Tx. 
  • Know the budget code when requesting the activity trip in Trip Tracker.
  • Submit a detailed itinerary to Jennifer Chavez or include the information in the Trip Tracker request for a bus or vehicle.
  • All non school chaperones or parents riding a school bus must be cleared through a criminal background check and issued a badge per district policy and (NMAC 6.41.4.11§F1-3)
  • Check with Jennifer three days prior if there are any changes prior to your trip
