DPS Celebrates National School Counseling Week
02/05/2026
Deming Public Schools is proud to join the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) in celebrating National School Counseling Week, February 2–6, 2026. This year’s theme, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” focuses public attention on the unique contributions of school counselors and the tremendous impact they have on helping students achieve in school and plan for careers. In Deming, we are taking this opportunity to recognize our entire student support network, including School Counselors, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialists, and Student Success Advisors. “These individuals are essential to the U.S. school system and the heart of our district,” says Andrew Wyman, Director of School Achievement and Success. “Whether they are helping students manage emotions or apply interpersonal skills, they provide the foundation that allows academic achievement to flourish”. Throughout the week, our teams will engage in outreach activities to raise awareness of the resources available at each school site. With over 131,000 school counselors nationwide serving nearly 50 million K-12 students, we are proud to highlight the professionals in Deming who make a difference every day. Deming Public Schools encourages parents and students to take a moment to thank the school counselors, SEL Specialists and Student Success advisors at their schools.

DHS Safety Update
02/03/2026
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Deming High School administration was notified by a staff member of possible deteriorated chemical containers located in a secured science-area storage location. This area is not accessible to students. Administrators immediately responded and, upon inspection, observed visible corrosion on several chemical bottles. As a precautionary measure, students and staff in nearby areas of the West Wing / Science Wing were temporarily evacuated. The District Safety Department was contacted and responded to assess the situation. In addition, community safety partners were notified and assisted as part of standard safety protocol. Following the inspection, it was advised that the science wing remain cleared until the chemicals can be properly secured and full clearance is provided. All students and staff are safe, and there were no injuries or exposure concerns. Classes outside of the affected area continued as scheduled. Deming High School and the District will continue to follow all safety procedures and will provide updates as appropriate.

Water Testing Results
10/01/2025
Dear Parents and Guardians/Staff, We are sharing this notice to inform you about the results of water testing that was conducted at our school campuses in May 2023 by the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) as part of a statewide program. Yesterday the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) provided us the results of these tests which took place over two years ago. Although the majority of our water sources showed no lead, and most of those that did, indicated low levels, Deming Public Schools will follow all recommendations from the New Mexico Environment Department. Signs will be posted at locations where lead was detected, indicating that the water should not be used for drinking or food preparation. (see example below). This will be done as a precaution while we follow up on the information in the report since it was based on information from May 2023. Since the original samples were taken in May of 2023 there has been maintenance and upgrades to fixtures and infrastructure by both the school district and local water utility providers. We will examine how these changes impacted water quality and implement other lead mitigation steps as needed. In addition, we will consult with the NMED, and conduct follow up testing as appropriate. Please be assured that safe drinking water is available throughout our campuses for both students and staff, along with water that can be used for food preparation. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for our students.
