Early College High School (ECHS) recently hosted its annual Career Readiness Week, also known as Internship Camp, providing all 81 ECHS juniors and seniors with hands-on opportunities to develop the professional skills and confidence needed for success after high school. Career Readiness Week has been part of ECHS since the program began and serves as a kickoff to the school year, setting expectations for learning and professionalism. The week was organized by ECHS teachers Dr. Rachel Bailey, Mrs. Aubrey Cardenas, and Mrs. Dianne Zachek, with assistance from Mrs. Tiffany Franco, Ms. Yara Chavez, Mr. Anthony Ruiz, and Mrs. Eva Avelar. “As we prepare students for professional opportunities after high school graduation, we believe soft skills and professionalism are paramount to their success,” Dr. Bailey said. “Career Readiness Week equips students with the professional skills and confidence necessary to succeed in future academic and career settings.”

Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up! This is a valuable opportunity for families to connect with teachers, discuss student progress, and work together to support student success.

Deming Public Schools has scheduled school bus rear door evacuations for Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Buses will load their students, engage the bus into gear, pull forward a minimum of 10 feet, apply the parking brake, gear into neutral, the driver will give the students instructions on what to do and then unload. Students shall depart the bus, walking briefly a minimum of 75 feet from the back of the bus assuming the issue is toward the front of the bus.

Deming Public Schools is pleased to announce Veronica Lozano as the new My Little School PreK Principal and PreK Program Coordinator. Ms. Lozano brings 22 years of experience in education, including extensive work in early childhood instruction, teacher development, program leadership and PreK compliance.

As the new school year begins, the district is implementing and reinforcing a comprehensive school safety plan that includes emergency preparedness drills, enhanced weapons detection technology, and safety search procedures designed to provide secure learning environments across all campuses.

Deming Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Melanie Rinehart as the district's new Chief Academic Officer. Mrs. Rinehart brings nearly 30 years of educational experience to the position, having served Deming Public Schools as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, principal, and most recently as Executive Director of Learning Services. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving student achievement through strategic leadership, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative systems that support educators and students alike.

New student online registration (OLR) opens Friday, May 1, 2026, for PreK, Kindergarten, and all students new to the district. The registration link is available on the Deming Public Schools website under “Registration”. Families are encouraged to review the website in advance to become familiar with the required information and documents needed to successfully complete registration. All new elementary students must register at their boundary school based on their current physical address, as indicated in the Online Registration (OLR) application. As you begin the OLR application, be sure to select the 2026–2027 school year.

Deming Public Schools (DPS) is proud to announce a significant milestone in student achievement, as newly released data from the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) shows the district’s four-year graduation rate has surged to 82.5% for the Class of 2025. This achievement marks a substantial 5.9 percentage-point increase from the previous year, far outpacing the statewide growth average. Leading this district-wide success is Deming High School, which has been recognized by the NMPED for achieving the 4th highest growth in graduation rates statewide among traditional high schools. Deming High School’s rate rose to 85.3%, a testament to the dedicated efforts of educators, students, and families to prioritize academic persistence. "These numbers represent more than just statistics; they represent lives changed and futures secured," said Nicholas Wohlgemuth, Superintendent of Deming Public Schools. "Seeing such a significant jump across our district, particularly the historic growth at Deming High School, validates the strategic interventions and support systems we have implemented to ensure every student reaches the finish line."

Due to regional weather conditions common to our area, Deming Public Schools may need to adjust school operations during periods of high winds, blowing dust, or other hazardous weather. This memo outlines how weather-related decisions are made and what families can expect. The new portal, part of the NMPED’s Black Education Act (BEA) Anti-Racism Anti-Oppression (ARAO) mandate, ensures that reports of race-based aggression are handled quickly and equitably. The Portal works as a neutral bridge that supports communication between districts, schools, students, and their families. It aims to promote a safer, more inclusive environment for all students, particularly those from historically marginalized groups.

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Members of the Deming Community, I am pleased to share with you the results from the 2024–2025 New Mexico state assessment cycle, which highlight strong areas of academic growth and progress across Deming Public Schools. While New Mexico as a whole made significant strides in literacy and stabilized science performance, some Deming schools were among those that had the largest gains in the state. This growth reflects the dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families.
