The Public Relations Department supports administration, principals, teachers, and the exceptional students of Deming Public Schools. The Public Relations Department goal is to promote district programs, activities, events, and news to better inform our community. The Public Relations Officer issues news releases, coordinates all media requests, publishes the district and staff newsletters, facilitates community engagement, manages the DPS website, app, and social media pages.
Media Access to District Schools and Facilities
Deming Public Schools welcomes members of the media into our school and strives to provide the most accurate and timely information available. The Public Relations Officer should be the first point of contact for all media inquiries for our district.
Interviewing & Photographing Students
Deming Public Schools operates in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This law allows students and parents to opt out of the release of certain information about students, including photographs. Each school is responsible for maintaining a database to determine who cannot be photographed and interviewed according to FERPA guidelines via the district's regulations.
Press Releases and Media Alerts
The Public Relations Officer is responsible for coordinating all news coverage of the school district. Overseeing official communications between the school system and all news media by initiating story ideas, press releases, media advisories, as well as facilitating requests for news coverage from district personnel and media representatives. The Public Relations Officer also provides assistance to school administrators regarding effective relations with the news media.
