
Nicholas Wohlgemuth, a native of Tularosa, New Mexico, brings over two decades of dedicated service in New Mexico public education to his role as Superintendent of Deming Public Schools. A proud product of southern New Mexico schools and a graduate of New Mexico State University, Mr. Wohlgemuth has devoted his 23-year career to empowering students and building systems that support academic success and post-secondary readiness.
Prior to joining Deming Public Schools, Mr. Wohlgemuth served as the Director of Secondary Schools for Gadsden Independent School District. In this district-level leadership role, he oversaw five high schools and three middle schools, led district instructional coaches and specialists, administered key college and career readiness programs, and guided school improvement efforts using the Marzano High Reliability Schools Framework.
Mr. Wohlgemuth also served as principal and assistant principal at Santa Teresa High School, where he led instructional reform, expanded STEM and Advanced Placement offerings, and supported the diverse learning needs of all students. He began his career as a social studies teacher at both the middle and high school levels, experiences that continue to inform his student-centered leadership approach.
His work is grounded in a deep understanding of the region’s multicultural identity and the unique needs of its communities. Mr. Wohlgemuth is committed to transparent leadership, equity, and operational excellence. As Superintendent, he is focused on fostering high-quality education, supporting student well-being, and ensuring students are ready for college and careers. As he begins his service as Superintendent he looks forward to building strong and lasting partnerships with families and the broader Deming community.
