Molina Healthcare of New Mexico (“Molina”) and State Rep. Jenifer Jones (R-32) recently teamed up to support Deming Public Schools students as they head into the new school year. In Deming, 26% of children under the age of 18 live in poverty. To support children returning to school and ensure every student is prepared with the proper supplies, Molina donated spiral notebooks, backpacks, packages of college ruled paper, and crayon packages. Rep. Jones made a matching monetary donation to Deming Public Schools to help purchase other back-to-school necessities.

Dear Parents and Guardians, We are writing to inform you about an important change in our automated attendance notification system. Starting on August 19, 2024, we will no longer be making automated attendance calls via voice. Instead, you will receive attendance notifications through the following methods: 1. Text Messages: Notifications will be sent directly to your mobile phone. 2. Campus Parent Portal: You can view attendance updates and messages by logging into the Campus Parent Portal. 3. Email: Attendance notifications will be delivered to your registered email address. This change is aimed at ensuring faster and more efficient communication. Please note that voice calls will now be reserved for emergency purposes only. We encourage all parents and guardians to ensure their contact information is up to date in our system. If you need to update your contact information or if you have any questions regarding this new process, please contact your child’s school. Deming Public Schools Transportation Department would like to inform parents and students who ride the bus of the following: • Due to high temperatures, bus riders have been permitted to take water bottles on the bus until Friday, September 13, 2024. • Only water is allowed on the bus. • Bus drivers will have windows down to help air circulate and keep temperatures in the bus as low as possible. Deming Intermediate School would like to remind parents and guardians about important safety precautions during student drop off and pick up times. • Drop off time is 7:45 a.m. • Pick up time is 3:25 p.m. • Please do not block traffic lanes on Pear and Hermanas Grade. Instead, pull onto the shoulder. • Parents cannot walk students out to a waiting vehicle. Chaparral's Open House Friday, July 19, 2024 from 10 am to 6 pm. Meet your teacher, see your classroom, and drop off supplies. Hot dogs, chips, and a drink plus a free book for all students.

Deming Public School’s Construction Department will be working on several projects starting in April and continuing throughout the year. Construction contractors/workers are required to have security clearance and wear ID badges while on school and district property. Below is a breakdown of the upcoming projects. On August 10, concerns regarding the smell of gas at Central Cafeteria were raised. Staff were moved out of the building to other school sites and meals were modified at My Little School, Bell Elementary, Chaparral Elementary, and Memorial Elementary. Communication was sent to parents at those four schools along with being posted on our social media sites, website, and released to our media partners. Under emergency procurement, a licensed external plumber was hired to replace all the gas lines in the central cafeteria building. As of September 5, the work has been completed and the inspection was passed. Hot meals resumed at all effected school sites on August 28 utilizing other kitchens across the district. We take all concerns seriously, investigate them thoroughly, and work with appropriate agencies to ensure our facilities are safe. New Mexico School Sales Tax Holiday begins August 4th through August 6th at midnight.

Below are some reminders from the Transportation Team for the new school year. Student Eligibility • New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) transportation state statue provides that students are eligible for transportation services if school bus routes are: • One mile one way for students in grades kindergarten through 6 • One and one-half miles one way for students in grades 7-9 • Two miles one way for students in grades 10-12 • Students will not be required to walk a greater distance to the bus stop than the required walking distance for each grade level. • All NM Pre-K students are ineligible for transportation except those with an IEP that require special needs busing.

Bataan Elementary School hosted veterans, first responders, and family members during their annual Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 11, 2022. The 5th grade team organized the program, and the 5th grade students led the entire program including the welcome, introductions, and closing.
